My name is Catherine Walsh and I am a Canadian living abroad. I like to cook home-style dishes from exotic places, take pictures, and natter-on. Incredibly, dozens of people worldwide like to watch.
Due to an inconvenient domestic situation, my (mis)adventures are usually gluten-, egg-, and peanut-free. This constraint is of little consequence, really, but it goes some way toward explaining the domain name.
I used to publish recipes here, but I don’t anymore, because I couldn’t stand the scraping and splogging; now I leave the thieves nothing of consequence. But if you, as a decent citizen, want more details, feel free to query. Or just Google™ it, and find all those other people who gave their time to the topic.
Comments are open (and moderated) if you feel like leaving your mark. Those who prefer to whisper may email me at this ‘blog’s title (compounded as one word) at yahoo dot com. I check this account at the full of the moon.
B’y the b’y, the title is also a play on Witless Bay, a somewhat unfortunately-named outport on Newfoundland’s Southern Shore. In 1637 my ancestors crossed the Atlantic from the British Isles and settled on that coast. In a fit of uncontrollable irony I have recently crossed back.

OMG! This is hillarious! I am Uzbek resided in Ottawa, just checking out your Uzbek recipes.
Good job!!! Keep it up!
Thanks! I like your food!
I’m very impressed with your culinary explorations of the globe! :) Beautiful photos, too!
It would be great to have a Recipe Index that lists the recipes and their categories, which would make it easier too browse all the recipes, and find stuff. Thanks!
Thanks. I really like your site; I found it about a month ago and put it in the sidebar. I haven’t found many other people doing this sort of stuff.
Yeah, free wordpress is a bit limited. I’ve tried to break-up the categories list on the sidebar but it seems I can’t. A recipe index could be separate, though. I’ll have to mess about.
Thank you, Catherine! I’m so glad you like my site! And thank you for linking to my blog, too!
As for the recipe list, I have a page that I update regularly. So far I’ve got it only for Recipes by Origin, but I’ll make some more.
I love your blog. Have ended up here by accident several times now while looking up food words from the Dictionary of Newfoundland English.
We’d love it if you entered a recipe or recipes in our Recipe Redux (aka Not Much Meat on a Carey Chick) Recipe Contest – here’s where to find out more about it:

Hope to hear from you,

This is a wonderful website!!! I am from Seattle, but live on the East Coast of the U.S. and my fiancee lives in St. John’s. I thanks for all of the ideas. I don’t know if you know about it yet, but next time you are in St. John’s there is a new Australian restaurant (just off Queens Road) that has gf cookies in addition to several other great options. Thanks!
I’ll be home for a visit in the spring of ’09 and I will certainly look for that, thanks. As a graduate student I lived downtown, just behind the Basilica.
